Welcome to the Women’s Fellowship PDF Print E-mail

The Women’s Fellowship is composed of any and all interested women who are members or friends of our church. We meet four times a year and sponsor two active monthly Circles, one on the 3rd Monday of the month (Sept - May) at 10 am and one on the 2nd Wednesday of the month (Sept - May) also at 10 am.  See the calendar for dates or call the church office at (757) 599-5164 for more information. The women of Warwick UCC would be honored if you should like to join them (if you are a woman) and share in their work and giving.

Our objectives are:

  • to promote Christian fellowship among the women of the church
  • to become more informed church women through study  groups
  • to cooperate with the Church Women of the Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ and to be represented at all Conference and Church Women of the EVA meetings
  • to be a part of Peninsula Church Women United through attending meetings and celebrations

Projects of the Women's Fellowship

  • Bazaar: An annual major fundraiser to support the budget and our projects.  The bazaar is usually held on the last Saturday in October. Bazaar photos will be added as soon as the webhost learns how.
  • Laity Sunday: This service is usually held on the first Sunday in October.
  • Health Kits: This is a program of the Church World Service to help teach hygiene to schools and clinics in the Third World countries. The kits usually consist of a hand towel, washcloth, bar of soap, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, Band-Aids, and emery boards.  Presently, we make monetary contributions because it is more cost effective and it provides employment opportunities for individuals in those Third World countries.
  • Chrismon Project: We continue to make new and repair the old Chrismon Ornaments. These are ornaments designed from Christian symbols for decorating the Sanctuary tree at Christmas time.
  • Confirmation Bibles: We present Bibles to members (up to age eighteen) of the Confirmation class the day they become Church members.
  • Christmas Card Display: In December, each member is encouraged to display a single Christmas card in lieu of sending the Season’s Greetings to each member. All the cards are displayed on one GIANT card in the sanctuary.  Members are asked to contribute the monies saved to a special offering contributed to help LINK (Local Interfaith Network) for their ministries.
  • Blanket Sunday: Funds are collected and given to the Church World Services who then present blankets and tools to neighbors around the world in desperate need. Giving money allows Church World Services to provide employment opportunities for individuals in those Third World countries and even in North America.
  • Children's Christmas Program - celebrating and learning about Jesus' birth by acting out the story.  With minimal rehearsals, each child gets a part and a costume.  Shepherds, sheep, sheepdogs, angels, wise men and the Holy Family for all the kids on the first Wednesday of December, with a short party after.Xmas_09_Holy_Family_2
  • Mission Studies: Each year, a part of the world is selected for study. In the past we have studied the Holy Land - Israel and Palestine, and the Island of Hispaniola - Haiti and the Dominican Republic, to name a few. Usually in March we have a Mission Night, with a sampling supper and presentation.
