LINK:LINK is an acronym for Living Interfaith Network, a local agency designed to assist those in the community in need as well as transient persons who need assistance. Originally it was configured as a consortium of local churches banding together to form an organization with more resources to help the needy than any one church could amass at one time as well as a defense against opportunistic “church shoppers” who went from church to church soliciting handouts. LINK has resources, or access to resources, that provide a more integrated, capable, and global assistance to those in need. Warwick UCC supports LINK with monetary gifts and collections of food. PORT:PORT is an acronym for Pooling Our Resources Together created to feed and house “homeless” persons and families during the cold, November through April months. In this program, many churches in the community pool their efforts where the larger facilities provide a rotating, one week shelter responsibility and then all churches band together to provide and prepare evening and breakfast meals. Warwick UCC generally provides food, personnel to prepare and serve the food, as well as personnel to register and check in the guests for two nights during the assistance period. |
