Picnic 2011

When Warwick UCC celebrated its annual picnic on Sept. 11, 2011, there were sunny skies and warm breezes, three dozen friendly faces, and plenty of delicious foods, all enhanced by musical favorites from The Beatles' "Twist and Shout" to Pavarotti's "Nessun Dorma." After a morning worship service that included time for remembering loss and sacrifice, the afternoon provided a time for remembering that laughter and fellowship help us to go on living in a world of love and community.

Tommy's playground was complemented by the hanging of the Octopus Garden Mural, designed by Amy Smith and painted by numerous loving hands, on Saturday, June 25, 2011. The project involved months of work planning the design, painting the marine fantasy scene, prepping the shed, and hanging the final mural. July Fish Fry!

Neither 90+ temperatures nor dazzling thunder boomers diminished the spirits of the Fish Fry Crew on June 10, 2011. More than $300 was raised and much fish was enjoyed! Thanks to all who helped!

Many folks are sending comments to CBS and CBS Sports over the very anti-abortion commercial featuring a famous football player during the Super Bowl's highly touted commercial zone. Seems they forgot that when they turned down us old-timer Christians in the UCC over our "Bouncer" ad, they said they didn't want to take sides on controversial issues. Priorities come first. Many of us were sleepy at the congregational meeting and worship on Sunday morning because we spent the night, or part of it, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, just down J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, welcoming and providing supper and breakfast for the homeless through PORT - Pooling Our Resources Together. Our second overnight has been moved to January 31-February 1 in a swap with Hilton Christian Church, at Chestnut United Methodist Church.

We held our children's Christmas Program early in Advent on Wednesday, December 2nd, with minimal rehearsals under director Sue Howell. The program is sponsored by Women's Fellowship so that the children will learn the Christmas story by doing it. Women's Fellowship hosts a short party afterward.

Christmas "Pounding" Helps Families

Fifteen families will receive holiday meals as a result of our Old- Fashioned Pounding. With the help of the Food Bank and Pastor Michael, each meal box, a turkey, and a note from our congregation was distributed to fifteen households during the week of Dec. 14th. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity starts Monday, January 18. Unfortunately, Pastor Michael has been unable to interest other churches in a shared week of services at this time. Please remember our UCC motto, taken from Christ himself, "that they may all be one." We look forward to the day when Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox Christians can share in this celebration and call to prayer.
